Mega Man Legends 3, We Hardly Knew Ye

It appears that Capcom has pulled the plug on the highly anticipated and long overdue 3DS project Mega Man Legends 3. It would seem that the project was not meeting with satisfactory results in the companies eyes and, as a result, they have shut down the project indefinitely.

On there website, Capcom stated that “it was not felt that the Mega Man Legends 3 Project met the required criteria, and it is with regret that we must announce that the Mega Man Legends 3 Project has been cancelled, meaning that Capcom will not be releasing the Prototype or the full game.”

They also stated that there are no plans for Mega Man Legends 3 in the future. Not only that, but the Prototype version will no longer be distributed on the eShop.

Some of you may remember the recent cancellation of the MMO Mega Man Universe several months back. With all these negative outcomes and cancellations for planned Mega Man games, it isn’t exactly looking bright and shiny for the future of the franchise. Some may speculate that this negativity may have something to do with Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune leaving Capcom some time ago. However, Capcom has clearly stated that the “cancellation of the MML3 project is in no way related to Inafune-san leaving the company.”

What do you think the future holds for Capcom’s Mega Man series? Do you think the franchise will flourish over the horizon, or is this the beginning of the end for Mega Man?
