5 Games I Can’t Wait to Play This Year

Rockstar Games’ next big thing appears to be L.A. Noire. With past successes such as Red Dead Redemption and the entire Grand Theft Auto series, I am excited to see what Rockstar has done this time in order to impress its audiences. This excitement led me to develop a “Top 5” list of video games yet to come out this year that I can’t wait to get my hands on.

L.A. Noir5. L.A. Noire – This newest title from Rockstar Games is set in 1940’s Los Angeles. You play as Cole Phelps, a war veteran recently turned LAPD. There has been much hype about L.A. Noire’s storyline and they have spared no expense when it comes to recreating 1940’s Los Angeles. The amount of detail and work put into the research and development of rebuilding the older version of the city is remarkable. I truly cannot wait to see what Rockstar has in store next. L.A. Noire is due out May 17th.

Dead Island Logo4. Dead Island – Did you see that trailer? How could anyone not be excited for a game with a trailer like that? Deep Silver and Techland may have a future hit on their hands with this new start-up. Dead Island is set on the tropical island of Banoi at the luxurious Royal Palms Resort. Oh and did I mention the best part? Lots of zombies!!! Dead Island is scheduled to release August 1st.

Assassin's Creed: Revelations3. Assassin’s Creed: Revelations – This is to be the third and final installment of the Ezio trilogy of Assassin’s Creed games. Ubisoft has really developed a series that produces a great game on an annual basis. The controls have always been above par, and the story has developed greatly since the original Assassin’s Creed was released. With the success of the previous Assassin’s Creeds, everyone should get excited about Revelations. Assassin’s Creed: Revelations will hit store shelves on November 30th.

Battlefield Field 3 Logo2. Battlefield 3 – On November 1st of this year, Electronic Arts and Digital Illusions CE will release the newest installment of the Battlefield series, Battlefield 3. With the new Frostbite 2 game engine, the buzz around Battlefield 3 has grown the past few months. The trailers are jaw-dropping and the visual as stunning as I have ever seen. The large-scale battles are sure to be a hit with those who have been locked on Call of Duty games for the past 5 years. We will have to see more at E3, but I can see this game taking the FPS crown from Activision.

Gears of War 3 Logo1. Gears of War 3 – Maybe it’s because it’s the only game on the list I have played, or maybe it’s because Epic always puts out a good, gruesome shooter, either way Gears of War 3 tops my list of games I am hyped about for the rest of 2011. I considered the original Gears of War as the first “must own” title for the Xbox 360. It was a great game with remarkable graphics and an intriguing storyline. Gears of War 2 was more of the same, although the multiplayer lacked the same hooking impact as the first did. With Gears of War 3 scheduled for a September 20th release, we won’t have much longer to wait until we can once again eradicate the Locust Swarm.

There you have it. Those are the top 5 games I am looking forward to for the remainder of 2011. Feel I missed some? Don’t agree with my list? Feel free to let us know what you are excited to play this year either in the comments, forums or contact us form.

  1. Great list! Great opinion! Agreed, those titles are definitely top 5 worthy!

  2. Nice list! BF3 and GOW3 for sure but I would take Mass Effect 3, Elder Scrolls Skyrim, Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword, Star Wars TOR and Uncharted 3 over Assassins Creed or L.A. Noire

  3. I would have put Mass Effect 3 as my top choice, but it has been delayed until 2012. But those games will all be great too, and I can’t wait to see them.
