Battlefield 3 to be Shown at E3

With E3 only a few days away, Battlefield developer Digital Illusions CE (DICE), has announced on the Battlefield blog that the final touches are being added on the Battlefield 3 and that they plan on showcasing both the Battlefield 3 single player and multiplayer modes of gameplay at E3.

The Battlefield blog reveals only a wee bit of info on the multiplayer:

“Powered by the Frostbite 2 engine, Battlefield 3 features some of the biggest and most spectacular maps that we have built. At the same time, we are also able to create more intense close-quarter combat than ever before. The multiplayer map, “Operation Métro,” available for press to play on the show floor, combines both sides of the scale into one cohesive experience. Gamers will experience a physical battlefield and be able to temporarily disable vehicles, go prone, mount weapons, lay down suppressive fire and more,” writes DICE General Manager Karl Magnus Troedsson.

But they’re not giving it all away at E3. The latest addition to the series will have a new Team Death Match mode and the Battlefield 3 Battlelog. The Battlelog is the social networking aspect of the multiplayer as it has feeds, friends lists, player stats, and voice chat.

“Battlelog will be available for the monthly fee of (drum roll)… zero dollars”,

according to Troedsson, perhaps a jab towards competitor Activision’s new Call of Duty Elite service.

Somehow, DICE has managed to make E3 2011, which already seems like its going to be the biggest one yet, even harder to wait for.
